What are Team Mission StatementsWhat are Team Mission Statements and why are they needed? A team is small group of people working toward some common purpose. The purpose is their mission. Note, teams are different to teamwork. Teamwork refers to the environment in an organisation that creates and sustains trust, support and collaboration. Teams are systems and are themselves usually part of a system. Without a pupose there is no system. Without a purpose their is no team. A purpose helps align a team giving them a focus. Successful work requires a purpose or mission, a system of work - a method, and lastly teamwork (relationships). Often in larger organisations, you get many teams with their own purpose but there no alignment of purpose across teams. What is needed is a team mission statement to be defined and agreed.
